The South Carolina Department of Archives and History's Records Management Division partners with state agencies and local government officials to establish and maintain a proper records management program. The statutory basis for the Archives' records management program is contained in the Public Records Act (Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976, as amended, Sections 30-1-10 through 30-1-170).
In carrying out this function, the Archives staff provides the following advisory services:
- provides records management training upon request;
- develops and issues records retention schedules;
- provide temporary storage for inactive state agency records;
- develops standards and regulations, technical publications;
- conducts a full range of microfilming services;
- provide guidance and assistance in the event of a disaster.
